About Manual Lymphatic Drainage:
What is Lymphatic Drainage?
A lymphatic drainage massage or manual lymphatic drainage massage uses gentle rhythmic motions to increase lymphatic flow and relieve swelling and fibrosis after serious injury, medical treatment, or illness all while entering you into deep relaxation. What Does Your Lymphatic System Do?
Typically, the lymphatic system collects fluid called lymph and cellular waste through your lymph vessels and lymph nodes. It then recycles or disposes of it. If injury, surgery, or anything that may disrupt the lymphatic process occurs, it can cause fluid to collect in your limbs and body, causing them to swell.

What To Expect During A MLD Session
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is done on a massage table in a comfortable position, maybe with pillow support. It can be a full body session or around a specific area. It is done skin to skin, but we can work around/over compression garmets. Expect to feel calm and relaxed, maybe even fall asleep. Cupping can easily be integrated into this session for deeper work. 60/90 minutes.

What type of appointment should I book?Choosing the right type of lymphatic massage depends on your individual needs and health status. Here’s a guide to help you decide which massage is best suited for you: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Description: This is the traditional Vodder-style manual lymphatic drainage, a gentle, precise technique that promotes lymphatic flow and reduces fluid retention. Who It's For: MLD is ideal for individuals with chronic health conditions, such as lymphedema, lipedema, or other conditions that cause edema and swelling. If your doctor has recommended lymphatic drainage to manage a specific health concern, this is the most appropriate option for you. Benefits: MLD can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the immune system. It’s especially beneficial for those experiencing chronic conditions, as it targets the lymphatic system to aid in reducing fluid buildup and promoting overall well-being. Why Choose This: Book this massage if you need therapeutic support for a medical condition. It's a gentle, non-invasive treatment focused on improving lymphatic function and managing symptoms associated with fluid retention. Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage (BLD) Description: Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is a more dynamic, invigorating form of lymphatic massage often used for wellness and aesthetic purposes. It employs rhythmic and slightly faster techniques to promote lymphatic flow and enhance body contouring. Who It's For: This style is suitable for individuals who are generally healthy and looking for a wellness boost. It’s popular among those seeking to reduce bloating, enhance body contours, or support detoxification. If you’re looking for the type of lymphatic massage commonly showcased on social media for its immediate visual results, this is the one to choose. Benefits: BLD can help reduce water retention, improve circulation, and provide an immediate sense of lightness. It’s often used to achieve a more toned and sculpted appearance while promoting overall wellness. Why Choose This: Book this massage if you’re seeking a wellness treatment to enhance your body's natural detoxification process, reduce bloating, or simply indulge in a revitalizing experience. It's also great for a quick pick-me-up before an event or for ongoing wellness maintenance. Post-Op Massage Description: Post-Op Massage is specifically designed for individuals recovering from surgery, such as plastic surgery, liposuction, or gender-affirming surgery. We primarily use the Vodder technique of manual lymphatic drainage to support the healing process, and a variety of other post op techniques once you are more healed to improve scar tissue. Who It's For: This massage is intended for clients who are in the post-operative phase and need support in managing swelling, reducing discomfort, and promoting proper healing. It's suitable for anyone looking to aid their recovery after surgical procedures. Benefits: Post-Op Massage helps reduce post-surgical swelling, improve circulation, and support the healing of incisions and tissues. As you progress in your recovery, we may introduce other techniques to address scar tissue and enhance mobility. Why Choose This: Book this massage if you’re recovering from surgery and need specialized care to reduce swelling, manage discomfort, and support your body’s healing process. Our approach is tailored to your unique needs at each stage of recovery, ensuring a safe and effective treatment plan. Need More Guidance? Why don't you work with lymphedema clients? While Dani is a certified lymphedema therapist, a lot of the necessary components of treating lymphedema are out of the scope of practice for an LMT. We also do not have an overseeing provider who could guide the treatment. We hope to change this in the future. If you have lymphedema and are currently under care somewhere else, we are open to seeing you for exclusively manual lymphatic drainage. Please contact us before booking, this is a case by case basis.

If you are already experiencing fibrosis we can generally work on the area to reduce or eliminate it. Think of us as your post op guide, helping you navigate getting the best results possible. There are many people claiming they do post-op massage or lymphatic drainage. If they are not licensed and certified in lymphatic drainage, they can harm you. No one should be cutting open your incisions or causing you intense pain during your post-op massage.

How is Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage (BLD) different from Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?Technique: BLD uses more vigorous and dynamic movements with a focus on body contouring and immediate visual results. MLD, on the other hand, uses very gentle, slow, and rhythmic techniques to promote lymph flow and is often used for medical purposes like managing lymphedema. Pace and Pressure: BLD is performed at a faster pace with moderate pressure to stimulate circulation and lymph flow. MLD is performed slowly with light pressure, suitable for more sensitive conditions. Purpose: BLD is often used for aesthetic benefits such as reducing bloating and enhancing body contours. MLD is primarily used for therapeutic purposes, including reducing swelling, managing lymphedema, and supporting post-operative recovery. Immediate Results: BLD tends to provide immediate visual results, such as reduced swelling and a more toned appearance. MLD’s results may be more gradual and focused on long-term lymphatic health.
